Hadari, Tudun Wada, and Angwan Yaro are villages in Nasarawa with almost the same realities. Water source for the people was a river that was very open. Open to all animals, open to all contaminants! It has also become a sewage, as dirt is freely dumped in the river.

In Hadari particularly, the burden of fixing the broken wells has reached an unbearable level. The community has had a frustrating repair experience with four protracted repairs in 12 weeks. The frustration and money spent on repairs with no positive results prompted the community to request our intervention.

They had to join a long queue of requests, but they were persistent and today we have three rehabilitated wells in the community. These clusters communities of Hadari, Tudun Wada, and Angwan Yaro are experiencing a new lease of life with their requests for water wells granted.

Every day in Angwan Rimi, many people suffer from a lack of access to clean water. For school-aged children, the long-term consequences of absence from school are never properly estimated. Deprived of the right to basic education, kids from this community face a grim future where ignorance and poverty are the brightest prospects.

It takes about 30 minutes to walk and collect water from highly contaminated sources. To stay safe, you will need to get firewood to boil just enough for drinking. You’d be just ok drinking the boiled water. You wouldn’t even bother about what dirty water does to your skin.

During the rehabilitation, the women in the community were full of humble smiles, laughter, and endless dancing because they no longer needed to walk for hours to get water. In excitement, a hunter from the village picked up his gun and started shooting in celebration of the newly installed hand pump. So we got a ‘Gun Salute”.

We pray that the people of Angwan Rimi would not just celebrate water. We pray for the love of Jesus which brings the best of life and brighter hope for tomorrow to be interpreted in their hearts through our sacrificial giving.

N22-R249 Bassa Angwa Mission

N22-R250 Bassa Angwan Masalata

Bassa is a community in the Kokona district of Nasarawa State. The Bassa is a large community ravaged by communal crises leading to loss of lives and properties in recent years. Our journey to Bassa was also dreadful and terrifying because of road construction on the route. At a point, Lifewater Nigeria’s truck couldn’t get through. The community had to get us a tow truck to help us cross over.

Before our intervention, the community depended on a stream for water. Waterborne infections are the predominant health hazards arising from drinking contaminated water from the community stream.

We rehabilitated two wells during our visit as children sanded other abandoned wells. A middle-aged resident of Bassa, Mustapha Abdul, delightedly said: “Your organisation is unique; it changes lives, lifts people, and makes the world a better place. Thank you for your donation and your association with our cause.”

Today, there is clean water and joy in the Bassa community.
