Gauraka is in the Suleja Area of Niger State. The water scarcity in the Gauraka community has led to long queues around private water sources, especially boreholes and wells. The lack of water has led to a price increase by water vendors. Ten regular 20-liter containers, formerly sold for N400, have risen to N700 depending on the area.
With the growing water crisis and visible poverty in the community, some community members go for days without bathing, except they take a long walk to the community stream.
During our visit, we rehabilitated two wells. Today, there is nearby safe and cost-free water for every household. Children can now go to school, thanks to Lifewater.
