Dalhatu Adamu from Mallam Karo Kwaka narrated the effect of the water crisis in their community. He said, “We have had a lot of challenges getting water, especially during the dry season.”
When the hardships became quite unbearable, the community reached out to the government for help, but support never came.
Dalhatu added, “During the rainy season, we store rainwater as much as possible. Still, it only lasts a few weeks, and we are back to suffering, trekking long distances looking for drinkable water as the river and stream water we drink causes many diseases like typhoid and diarrhea.”
During our visit, we drilled a well to ease the community’s dependence on unsafe water and cushion the dry season’s impact on water availability.
Today, there is safe water for all in the community.
